Re: Conversion to 240v

After quite a search I've found a suitable 240V replacement PT for the Classic 50 which costs around $300.00 NZD incl. freight. Then it must be installed. Or you can get the existing 110V PT rewound for around $200.00. It will need to be removed from the chassis, sent to the winder & reinstalled...

Re: Whats on your amp workbench?

Hey Jean, I've got an Avo C.T. 160 valve tester if it helps. So back to basics... one valve draws a much higher idle current than the other. V5 at 30mA no red plating, however V6 at 37mA shows a bit of red plating as per previous photo. V6 draws more than 20% more idle current. Tried a 50K trimpot ...

Re: Time to buy some spray gear....

Here's my story... buy the right compressor, HVLP gun, hose, connectors, regulator & air drier. Buy a spray tent, goggles, respirator, safety wear & disposable gloves too. Buy the nitro, thinners, solvents, sand paper etc. Read, read, read and ask GrantB too just for good measure. Create a &...

Re: Whats on your amp workbench?

I don't mind you being pedantic Mike. Totally correct you are. Remember how Molly shared that CD with all the vintage amps? Well, it has a FENDER PDF with 164 models in so I just scrolled through it and summarised the 6L6 valve circuits with tremolo. Thanks Molly, made it easy! I put some of the Ba...

Re: Whats on your amp workbench?

6V6s (and EL84s) probably don’t suffer this issue as much since they draw less grid current than a 6L6 (or EL34). I’d be curious to see if Fender used bias wiggle on any of their 6L6 amps and, if they did, how they implemented it… will check some schematics. Why are you lowering the plate voltage? ...

Re: Otago Pro & Otago Custom Prototypes

Damn, that looks cool. I'm actually wanting to lose the black tolexed cab look for a number of reasons. I'm thinking of a dark amber, distressed raw wood look that's protected with a hard, matte two-pot clear finish. Tartan surely.... Why? EDIT: Oh... the Scottish influence in Dunedin. Got it doh!

Do you have a stash, or a source?
Shouldn't be hard to find some locally, you can get red beech plywood too!
Not ply... but it would be perfect if Red Beech fitted the bill, I'll do some investigation.
