Re: Mr Glyns Pickups

Was listening to The Guitar Knobs Podcast interview with Glyn, he used to teach guitar making back in the UK and one of his students became the dude behind Manson guitars! Played a Manson parlor on the weekend - assuming Andy Manson and the Manson you're referring to are the same. What a lovely wee...

Re: What are you gassing for?

I promise I don't only listen to Wilco... but I do think Jeff Tweedy has great taste in acoustic tone: He does have great taste in acoustic tone, but he also has a very large collection of acoustic instruments, and only likes old strings. His limited edition signature model martin was a 00 sized ma...

Re: Telecaster Pickups

They are darker due to the dummy coil, this is why some Fender Noiseless pickups come with 500k or even 1meg pots in order to bring back some of the highs that with stock 250k pots just aren't there.

Re: A question for acoustic guitar snobs

The player would make anything sound good, but aside from that... That's not a J45, it is an LG-2 (smaller, like an L-00 but wider in the waist) which is fantastic for finger picking. They hit the sweet spot at a relatively low volume and are very pleasing to the ear for both player and listener. Lo...

Re: Telecaster Pickups

Check the switch first, and replace it if necessary. Often a "broken pickup" is a just a dry solder joint, or a switch that isn't working as it should (Even on USA Fender.)

Can't tell the difference, too much confusion in the midrange. Is the amp a Classic 50?

Re: NGD: Bittersweet reunion

Wait, so you bought it back as a working instrument, no issues disclosed, and it arrived missing all those bits? that's more than a little frustrating. Hopefully you can find a resolution, as it sounds like a guitar worth keeping. Paulownia is crazy soft, its almost like balsa wood, this is s...

Stew-Mac are collecting GST at the checkout now too, it doesn't show up until you are most of the way through the checkout process.

Re: NAD!!!!70s Fender amp advise

Have dated the speakers to 74, one transformer to 75 and the power transformer to 76 so I guess it’s a 76! Got it booked in for Tues to get looked at, other than getting re capped, new valves are there any other things I should get done whiles it’s getting serviced? I’m guessing it could be black f...

Re: NAD!!!!70s Fender amp advise

I agree with what Rectified Amps is saying, getting it done right first time. It'll sound great if given the care/attention/work it requires, which won't be a whole lot.

This course has been going for quite some time, but Goldbeard has just taken it over. Seems to be based on the course that Paddy offers in Wellington.
