Sure, but I think I've only encountered one really cheap guitar that didn't need a bunch of upgrades to make it worthwhile. An old USA Peavey Predator I got for $80 or something that I wish I'd kept. Otherwise they generally feel like what they cost.

After some great service from Ady at the Guitar Gallery, and via a setup by Rob Matthews, I've ended up with what really should be all the guitar I'm ever going to need

I'm pretty hamfisted at that sort of thing and really don't have the time. But yeah, it would be a smart way to go.
