Re: What's on your work bench?

Country blues, back in 2006 I was looking for an archtop to play slide ala Muddy Waters early days. Bought a Harmony and found that they use solid woods for all guitars up until 1974, a lot were birch but that sounds great, also the ladder braced sound. Been buying the bargains since. My top acousti...

Re: What's on your work bench?

Finally got this in the house, Covid sure has slowed mail from the USA. Most of the back braces are loose, easy fix. The neck is hanging on by a tiny bit of glue so can probably get that off without steam, a reset is definitely needed. Graphics are really great and overall for a mid sixties guitar i...

Guitar Refret

Anyone know a decent reasonably priced luthier/tech in the Wellington region that can do a refret on a 60's Harmony? I have done a few but not really comfortable doing this on my H74.

Otherwise might be incoming GrantB. :)

Re: Forums have been slow, how about a 'In the mail' thread?

Ordered some strings from Just Strings and they were posted 26 March, emailed them a few weeks back to say they hadn't arrived and they said that mail is not insured. Lo and behold they turned up yesterday

Re: Jag/jazzmaster bridges

I bought a modified Mustang bridge for my Jazzmaster off this guy, 9.5 radius and dropped right in. No problems at all since https://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/Listi ... er=1227809

Doesn't seem to have any at the moment, cost from memory $25.

Re: Pro junior vs 5e3 Tweed Deluxe ?

I had a PJ and currently have a 5e3. The PJ gets loud quickly up until about 4 on the dial after that increasing the volume just increases the gain, a very musical breakup. Loud for its size, a real raucous little rocker. The 5e3 has such a variety of sounds, the interaction between channels is amaz...

Re: Cheapest tube amps avaliable in NZ

First time I have had the back off this in about 6 years of owning it, I just assumed it was a 5Y3 as that is the norm for Princetons, the tube had no markings. This is a great amp for playing at moderate volumes, pretty much what I used it for, the tone is sweet, volume up it gets loud with some gr...

Re: Cheapest tube amps avaliable in NZ

Yes a Fender Champ clone with a few extra features. MPC was a guy in Gisborne who imported Chinese amps and then did a few mods/upgrades. Closed down about 2 years ago. This is the second I have owned, gave the first to Canadian mate who liked the sound so much I gave the it to him. ETA: Damn, my ba...

Re: Cheapest tube amps avaliable in NZ

I ummed and arred about this, but since I got my MikeC Tweed Deluxe I haven't plugged another amp in, even my beloved Valco. I have an MPC 5 watt Champ which I would let go for $120. It has had some cap upgrades, tube upgrades and a switch which has original Champ sound, top cut and bass cut, all by...
