Help building my first pedal board
I've been trying to move past beginner guitarist and have been collecting a few pedals to learn about what they all do.
Now I'd like to start planning which ones to keep, so I can afford other toys.
I need help to sort out what stays, which are double ups, what I should add, what can stack well etc.
I also have boss compressor & a chorus (somewhere)
I just jam at home, working my way through the guitartricks online course. Classic Rock to metal, blues, Folk, but NOT country
I have a homemade les paul jr with single P90, strat, and a black guitar with EMG's,
Probably love the les paul sound and feel the most!
Have a Blackstar ID 30 tvp amp which also has effects
Any help greatly appreciated!

Re: Help building my first pedal board
Boss compressor >> bad monkey >> super badass >> triangle buff >> amp
Edit:
Put tuner in effects loop after chorus and before delay.

2 votes for the bad monkey already?
It did sound great with the LP jr but seemed to decrease the volume quite a bit. Is there a fix for this?
Also is it a variant of a tubescreamer? Any point swapping it for a mini tubescreamer?

Re: Help building my first pedal board
Nice collection of Mooers. Have come to respect those little guys.
I have no opinion on what you should keep. Listen to your ears, whatever they say will be right.
There were two things that took my pedalboard to the next level: A good power supply and really good cables. They were so unsexy that it took me years to finally do it. Best thing ever. No noise, reliable, everything just suddenly worked properly.
You've got some great sounds there and yes, the Bad Monkey has quite a following in some circles.

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Re: Help building my first pedal board
Nemesis < Trelicopter < Triangle Buff < Myamorphia < Hustle Drive < TU-2
Delay < Tremolo < Big Muff Fuzz < Rat < OCD < Tuner
Got an absurd amount of flexibility there. Rat can run low gain like a Tubescreamer and works with Vox amps plus stacked with Muff will give the Fuzz cut-through, OCD has a butt load of flexibility and can be a boost or work beautifully into Fenders, and Trem can give you some subtle swirl and interest without sounding crap.
This is totally based on me and what I like so it next to useless

Re: Help building my first pedal board
Thanks for the advice all.
I’ve just shelled out for EBS patch cables so hope they will be enough quality. I was really hoping the cheap power supply would be ok, but will consider upgrading that in the future
I tried a few of the ideas mentioned and will keep playing over the holidays.
The Bad Monkey seems to boost most things well.
The Nemesis is great. Planning to drop a couple of effects I don’t like and add phaser etc in their place.

What is a sensible number of distortions?
The suggestions seem to only have a few pedals.
Maybe it's by bogan roots showing but I feel bad leaving different distortions out.
Does anyone have a main board that somehow adds into another home board?

Re: Help building my first pedal board
I have one pedal board and use 3x different overdrives regularly... ymmv. I hate having redundant pedals on the board I take when playing out, so most of my spares kick around in a box until needed. If I'm jamming at home and trying stuff out, I'll mix and match with the pedal board, and sometimes make changes.Bigreddog wrote:What is a sensible number of distortions?

One. But only if you have a Rockbox Boiling Point.Bigreddog wrote:What is a sensible number of distortions?
Have had 4 but that got silly. See how your distortions go played into each other. There's some great extra sounds to be had for free, that way. Wampler Pedals do some good Youtube vids on the subject.

Re: Help building my first pedal board
Ok, so I’m a bit further on and a bit poorer with my pedalboard. All cheap copies except delay.
Polytune>Boost>bd2>ocd>Rat>klon>Nemesis delay> looper
I’m looking for a reverb and mod now to finish things up.
Any advice on Ventris or Helix HX stomp?
