Re: Lukather
he is a weird cat for sure (mind you most of us guitarists are really) .... he has a weird driven, sugar rush energy thing going on (listen to this podcast https://player.fm/series/no-guitar-is-s ... e-lukather )
I'm going to say just because he freaks me out a bit

Re: Lukather
That makes absolute sense in the context of his session work and the G3 stuff I've seen. He is not a technical wizard by any means, but he's recorded some incredible solos.Shimmer wrote:I was indifferent, but a really great interview with him in the latest Guitarist magazine (no. 433 - I don't normally buy it but was at an airport... - bonus interview with Adrian Utley (Portishead etc)). Steve says "I'm not out there trying to blow everybodys mind like im the best guitar player in the world. Because I'm not. I'm not even close. I'm a journey man guitar player. And I'm proud to be that. I'm the guy you call to fix shit or fucking come up with a part...."

Saw him at G3, no idea who he was prior, but was the only one that had a tone that didnt hurt my ears.

What is wrong with you all? He has all the class and style of a jacuzzi salesman. He is a pit of smug self-satisfaction. The embarrassing uncle of a crap LA hair metal band shredder... The musical equivalent of an 80s sitcom.
Did I mention I don't like him?

Just as well you added that last sentence, else we'd have been lost as to whether it was orDarth Sabbathi wrote:What is wrong with you all? He has all the class and style of a jacuzzi salesman. Re: Lukather
Lukather was my fave at the Auckland G3. Maybe a bit because I was less familiar with his solo thing, whereas with Vai and Satch I knew what was coming. Or maybe because I admire and aspire to his hair metal uncle 80s sitcom vibe.
You could say for someone with that much talent, he’s never made a definitive solo album. But I should probably listen to his solo albums before saying that.
Anyway, thumbs up. The solo in Olivia Newton John’s “Let’s Get Physical” alone. Perfect 80s hair metal solo in a pop song. And Olivia’s still welcome in my jacuzzi.*
