NGD

Post by Polar Bear »

So after wanting one of these for quite some time, I managed to snag one on FB for a great price.

It's the Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster, and aside from the ridiculous rhythm circuit, they're pretty much perfect from the factory, aside from a couple of little, easily tweakable things. First thing was to put some 500k pots in to replace the 1meg Alpha pots from the factory. I've also changed the rhythm circuit to be a bit more useful. I've taken the two rollers out of the circuit, and changed the switch to engage the neck and bridge pickups in series to give a nice, fat, bucker sound. The stock pickups are pretty hot, and a bit more p90esque than a 60s style JM pickup. I've also filed the fulcrum that the trem rocks on to make it a bit smoother, although this was pretty good to begin with.

Oh yeah, and I got this as well:

Gretsch G6136T-LTD15 Limited Edition Falcon in Rose Metallic. I've had a 5120 for the last 7 years, and haven't ever felt the need to upgrade it. I've played quite a few Falcons now, and aside from a mid 2000s white falcon, I'd found them all underwhelming, and almost plasticy. This on the other hand, only took one strum to win me over. Great clear tone, beautiful build quality, super easy to play, and looks like a normal sized guitar when I play it. Winner!

p.s. yes, it's a proper Gretsch.

I might have to take a better photo before the sun goes behind a hill.

As for the dive, there's two things I hate, almost drowning and eating animals. I will however quite happily chill some beers for you whilst you do. I could even warm one of the AC30s up.

You finally bagged that rose Falcon, that is a lovely guitar  I did wonder why the white Gretsch had been sold.
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

There's an obligation now... You didn't try a White Penguin, by any chance?

not the Penguin because it doesn't have a wiggle stick! the other one I was keen on was the Orange Chet Atkins Jet model, but that was also sold out before I could breathe

Great Gretsch 'colour' . Sure beats white and blue.
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.
