I think it's a rubber strip so folk cold play it like a regular-shaped guitar. I've seen it on the earlier ones before.

Yeah, you're right. I've looked at lots of pics of those original korina Vs and never noticed it before. Huh. Now I feel dumb. Oh well, today I learned...
