I always thought that Van Halen came out of nowhere. I could not hear in his playing anything of Hendrix, Page or Clapton. But tonight after listening to some Tommy Bolin, it is clear that EVH turned up via him. You can hear it so clearly in EVH's phrasing, chops, effects. Van H just takes it a little further and does it better. Bloody interesting.

I've been listening to TB for years but would never have spied a connection in EVH's playing. Don't know about EVH doing TB 'better' per se. Man heard 2 songs off Alice Coopers new album and they are both awesome .... still release great music at his age
