Yeah, felt overpriced to me too. Was considering making a cheeky offer since he's relisted it a few times. I borrowed a 5e3 a while back and liked it quite a bit.godgrinder wrote:Considering the price of the other stuff he's selling, I'd guess this one is overpriced too.Pastasauce wrote:Any thoughts on this little guy?

I don't reckon that's overpriced myself. That was made by a member here (Tubeswell) and will be an absolutely top-notch build. You're always going to struggle to sell something like this on, but it will give all but the very best 5E3 clones a run for their money IMO.Pastasauce wrote:Yeah, felt overpriced to me too. Re: Getting back in the game
I actually reckon it's a pretty cool choice for a 5E3. The Soldano (Eminence) X12000 (or whatever it's called) is a pretty dark speaker and would smooth a 5E3 out in a lovely way, I would guess.Pastasauce wrote:Soldano speaker seems like an odd choice?

Re: Getting back in the game
Apparently the X12000's don't perform too well in open back cabs and that's why Soldano eventually eschewed these for V1216's.handsoffmatt wrote: I actually reckon it's a pretty cool choice for a 5E3. They sound great in closed back cabs though.

Re: Getting back in the game
Interesting... I have a pair of these in a closed 2x12 cab. It sounded very nice with my Laney IRT-Studio but I did contemplate partially opening the cab before I sold the amp.godgrinder wrote:Apparently the X12000's don't perform too well in open back cabs and that's why Soldano eventually eschewed these for V1216's.handsoffmatt wrote: I actually reckon it's a pretty cool choice for a 5E3. Re: Getting back in the game
So, little update from me on this quest...
Tried a Katana at the Rockshop today. (they didn't have Blues Jrs in stock and don't stock Vox AC10's). And....
Yeah, not for me. It sounded fine, for what it was, and 13 year old me would've thought it was a big step above my Ashton and Zoom 505 combo. But it didn't blow me away, and it made me realise that what I want is one great sound from an amp, to modify with pedals. So, yay, clarity, at least.

Clarity is a tall order for an ampPastasauce wrote:So, little update from me on this quest...

They keep telling me tone is in the fingers, but I have yet to see a "look at my fingers" thread.

Re: Getting back in the game
Though, given I don't have an amp at the moment, my tone is really transparent as is.

If it helps, MP Wellington has Blues Juniors, AC10s and AC15s in stock.Pastasauce wrote:So, little update from me on this quest...

Re: Getting back in the game
Got the chance to have a quick play on an AC15, AC10 and Blues Jr thanks to Polar Bear. (Cheers man!)
I liked them all.
The Fender had that forgiving bouncy clean, and the AC's were midsy and jangly, to the surprise of no one. I could live with any of them. The AC10 was surprisingly ballsy.
