Good grief... I've always considered JM to be a decidedly average guitar player, but that was shocking. Staying in time obviously not important then?

Hmmm.

In Mayer's defence he does a trio setting live album with Palladino and Jordan which has 3-4 moments of brilliance.

But yeah that was a bit pants

Think he just seemed to be way outside his comfort zone. Not to say I could've done it any better but if I'd taken my shirt off there would've been sufficient distraction for nobody to notice.

This guy has the intheblues channel on YouTube. Does quite a few with the Roland Blues Cube. Here's one with the tone capsules. Spoiler alert : the EJ one is not as good as the others. Lots of other gear demos as well. Looks like an interesting channel.
