They're great amps to be honest, and bargain basement prices, gets them made in china and replaces some parts locally, job done!

Sounds really good in the demo. There are a few MPC owners here who are all very happy with theirs. I had the little 5W Tweed Princeton clone and that was pretty cool.

An EL84 Tremoverb?

The one I played a few years back sounded compressed and didn't seem to have either the iron, or the speaker to deliver convincing bottom end.

Sounds like my experience isn't the norm.

You've just forgotten what it's like to be a bottom feeder.

I have had a 5w job for a few years. Great harp amp and it has never missed a beat, though I do every now and then. It cost 175 to the door.

Some he builds, and some he imports.

I did sound for a band recently using a 5watt champ clone and a Tweed Deluxe clone, both from MPC. Both sounded really good. I suspect as with every budget amp many corners are cut but you can probably overcome some of that with new tubes and a better speaker. You might be able to order one to be built with a really nice OT too

Can't argue with the price.

A buddy of mine got a Classic 5 Deluxe combo off trademe about mid last year(it is a few years old with the plain brown grille cloth), put a Celestion Blue in it and it sounds exceptional......best sounding smaller amp I've played.Big fat and gutsy with a LP.
I got one sent to me based on the tone of my mates and as I sort of expected there were a number of changes in the components used that made it sound different and not for the better.
Sent it to Clarry Schollum and he changed this and that resistor/cap etc to spec with my mates and it's now only a hairs breadth away from his one in tone.Works great with my acoustic/electric gats too.
Another friend of mine(a harp player) has a 40w 2x12 that he got new about a year ago, I played it and it sounded compressed and fuzzy, definitely not like a tube 40 watter should. So again his one went to Clarry who did his magic and it sounds a lot better. He had to change quite a few things in that one and commented that it was all over the place spec wise plus it had a bad 6L6 tube as I found which didn't help at all.
Problem with MPC is that he does everything by email as I found so no talkie on the phone.
Doin' that scrapyard thing.
