Stacking Overdrives - Do you do it?

I've never done this. Assumed it'd be a horrible mess. Then today I set the Super Reverb clean (not that I could get it to overdrive at home anyway) and put my two overdrives in sequence. Was only intending to compare them but when I put them both on, f'k me, it sounded fantastic. Still really clear but shitloads of sustain and such a big sound! So, I supposeI can set two slight variations in overdrive (Dude is a bit darker / fatter) and put both on for epic widdle.

Guess I'm late to the party. Anybody already do this?

Yep, 1 pedal set for louder, 1 set for dirtier. Both together for louder&dirtier

Just experimenting with this myself. Tumnus always on, right on break up point, followed by Mooer Rumble Drive. It's the first time I'm doing this because my current amp is all clean.

As an aside, I could do with some knobs like those on the Lovepedal for The Dude. Dude knobs are a fucker to see.

"Dude knobs are a fucker to see". I'm sure I just said a JB thing there.

So, I take it you're using your amp as a clean platform? Expect two overdrives on top of amp overdrive might be poos.

Too much gain on both can be a mushy undefined mess but get the right 2 and it sounds great!
3 is the tipping point though, very rarely does it sound better with 3 stacked, unless you like heavily compressed distortion/Fuzz!

I prefer an OD into a cranked amp personally, seems to have some magic :)

I noticed that if I added the first to the second the volume didn't increase. Need to go back and see if adding the second to the first might make it act as a boost. Mind, I might not want that if I'm picking a pedal for rhythm tones that best suit a particular song / guitar. I'd likely want them to be the same volume.

Older Mooer pedals had small black knobs with a wee notch that nobody could see. I used a touch of correction fluid in the notch. Failing that how about glow in the dark paint? Glow in the dark knob, not sure if JB loves or hates the idea.

Im a big fan of stacking overdrives, the hardest bit I find is deciding which way round to have them.

Yeah, my amp is clean and without effects loop. Clean platform with everything in front of the amp.

My band is looking at covering Only Shallow by My Bloody Valentine and I need to get the guitar sound huger than normal. Will this stacking thing work?

Depends on what you have and what you want but potentially, yes.
