What cab next? Orange/Mesa?

So, I'm in the market for a 2x12 cab now that I've liquidated my Stilleto as despite how great it sounds, it's just absurdly heavy (nearly 40kg) and I'd much rather a 2x12 and smaller head .

I'm after something high end, probably V30's and my current options are

1. Orange PPC 2x12
2. Mesa Recto 2x12

I've had a mesa cab before, and I know i can vouch for them, but the Orange is intriguing me at present. I play both clean clean and high gain, so would prefer one with more of a tight bottom  end.

Thoughts/experiences/alternatives?

And as always, if anyone is selling either...

I’ve had both and was disappointed in the Orange it was very sterile and heavy to boot
The Mesa was fantastic :)

Speaking of Bogner, there was one on TM yesterday. The combo jobbie. It was a US import with step-down so didn't last five minutes.

Disagree.

Orange PPC212 is more solid than the Mesa's. A bit boomier/deeper sounding IME, while the Mesa's are more in your face. Quite directional. On par with Bogner's. As with all V30s they need to be broken in, and they need to be played loud.

They are slightly larger than the Mesa recto cab, but weigh the same.

They have skid runners on them so they couple fantastically to the floor for bass tightness, but due to their directionality are best heard raised up higher.

They still don't sound as good as an Orange 412.

Aside from the loading and boot space aspect, I find casters on a 412 easier than carrying a 212, but thats nothing a home made dolly can't fix.

The Orange doesn't have a handle on top. 28kgs one handed in a KB is difficult enough if you're going a distance...in the bulk of a cab I can't imagine it would be the ideal way to carry the thing anyway.

We'll beg to differ :)

+1 on the Orange. I have one, it's my main cab for band practice & the occasional live gig. Super punchy sounding with my Peavey 5150.
Love how it has recessed handles on the sides rather than the flimsy handle on top that Mesa's have.

There're like 3 entirely different Orange 2x12" models out there, which one did you have?

You're in Auckland?
Take my THD and see if it works for you.
