What are the component parts of this tone?
This is the kind of clean tone I want. It's the one I associate with that delicate, Hendrixy stuff. It's described here as 'Tweed'. If you were trying to recreate this tone how would you go about it? Are there essential component parts (neck pickup single coil for example), tubes, etc?

Thanks.

I'd switch channel 1 on my V to tweed mode
In all seriousness though, that kinda sounds like generic mid-large valve amp juuuuust on the edge of breakup to me, I think it's more the reverb and the slappy picking that gets it across the line.

Cheers. What frustrates me about Boogie amps is that I tend to like a particular combination of sounds that just so happen to be on the same channel and they're never footswitchable. On the Mk.V is it in the same place as that glorious clean?Eruera wrote:I'd switch channel 1 on my V to tweed mode

Re: What are the component parts of this tone?
In all seriousness (sort of) I reckon next time you have spare money in guitar budget buy some tickets to the States or Aussie and find some guitar stores with good stock of your favourite boutique Amps that you can do proper side by side comparisons on.
It might actually be worth it in your case! Because in NZ we don't really have that opportunity and we end up buying blind or based solely off YouTube demos which never gives an idea of how the amp feels to play or how it really sounds in the room etc.
It sounds ridiculous at first but if your spending over 4k on an amp that you can't play first then 1k on flights to Aussie to find the perfect amp might not be out of the question.

I don't generally mind. It's good to try nice gear but right now I'm thinking of wiping the slate clean and just starting again but this time with more thought to the situation I am in rather than the one I want to be in.

Re: What are the component parts of this tone?
Lots of reverb is what I'm hearing mostly, the rest is just a fender voiced amp

Sure, but how often do you need two clean sounds in a song?Molly wrote:

Good picking dynamics.
Nice playing.
Lots of reverb
A pretty basic clean tone
That tone is all about the playing and the reverb. The tone is pretty basic.

Cheers for the replies chaps.
True. I still seem to project this gear into a scenario where I'm playing live and need this that and the other. I need to either stop doing that, or actually play live.Eruera wrote:

Re: What are the component parts of this tone?
I'm much the same, and even when I wind up gigging it turns it out it doesn't matter nearly as much as I thought it would

Mmmm altho' even when gigging and having the perfect rig for what you do you sometimes end up selling it all and replacing it with something else

Re: What are the component parts of this tone?
The states maybe... where are these mythical Aussie guitar shops with amazing amps to try? I used to be over there every couple of months and never found a store with close to the number of nice amps you can see between the K rd Rockshop, and the Amp shop just 5mins walk round the corner.Reg18 wrote:1k on flights to Aussie to find the perfect amp might not be out of the question.
A few places might have a better selection of Gibsons and usually a few custom shop ones for mind bogglingly high prices, especially when you figure the exchange rate, but I've found Aussie guitar shops to have a really dismal selection of amps. Chinese Vox, some Orange and the occasional Peavey.

Re: What are the component parts of this tone?
I have always personally found that I have a very different tone when I go from bedroom to gigging. What sounds good on its own often doesn't cut through when there's a bass player and drummer thumping in behind you.
