Just a wee update for no other reason than me being bored at work:

I (MisterB) ended up installing a Dimarzio Tone Zone S in the bridge next to the Area single and it has given the guitar a good whack of bass response. I didn't notice too much of a difference switching between the Air Norton and the Area, so this seems to have given me a bit more grunt. Still not the same as a proper humbucker, but that requires more than what I'm willing to do.

The actual neck itself was rather chunky at the chord end and with a glossy finish. I've had Trevor Binford reshape it and give it a Tru Oil finish so it's much more satisfying, now closer to a modern strat.
