Entwistle pickups
Any reviews or comments on Entwistle pickups quality or sound, looking at the HV58 neck humbucker Alnico2, 7.0K specifically?

Re: Entwistle pickups
yeah I am pretty tempted by a couple of the single coils (no pun intended ^single coil^) and at $29 - $34 its pretty much a no brainer......still haven't done it yet though
one of the singles I have been looking at is "apparently" very similar to a duncan quarter pound (my favourite pick up) and at 1/4 of the price I really should just get one

Re: Entwistle pickups
The Neck humbucker in my Telemonster is an Alnico 5, 7.8K and its to hot and muddy, looking for something brighter so might give the entwistle a go.
If its okay might look at a single coil for the bridge.

Haven't tried the quarter pounder. What do you like about it if you don't mind me asking?willow13 wrote:yeah I am pretty tempted by a couple of the single coils (no pun intended ^single coil^) and at $29 - $34 its pretty much a no brainer......still haven't done it yet though

Re: Entwistle pickups
Huh, that's really cool.
Went looking at entwistles. The low output 58 thing looks like my jam.

Re: Entwistle pickups
Just ordered the HV58 Nickel humbucker, DCR: Neck: 7.0K
The classic late '50s humbucker, made to original vintage specs. Enamel coated winding wire, scatterwound coils and Alnico 2 magnetics. We use an Alnico 2 bar as it provides a more diffused secondary field and behaves as if the magnet is 50 years old. Unlike modern pickups our HV58s are not vacuum processed as this reduces the natural gaps in the windings and it is theses gaps that are at the very source of the vintage sound Covered versions of the HV58 are potted in hot wax for around 60 seconds and have a slightly different tone to the open frame HV58s which are not 'potted' at all as they are designed to replicate the earliest PAF's and are fine if you use them with a classic amp (AC30, Fender Twin, Marshall 50 etc) but will have a tendency to squeal when used with modern high gain amps.
Will report findings once installed.

Re: Entwistle pickups
I'm assuming that these are just another brand name on something from the Artec factory or one like it. Same as Tonerider, Wilkenson, Stewmac, Armstrong. Various price points and some quite good...

Re: Entwistle pickups
This is to replace Tonerider Generator AL5 8K neck position in my Tele which despite 500K pots is still muddy to my ears. Hoping lower output 7K is a little brighter, even thinking of installing it rotated 180 degrees so the pole pieces are facing bridge, guess Ill find out tonight.

Re: Entwistle pickups
A2 magnets should sort that. 1m tone pot if you're really concerned.
Leave pickup orientation the same and simply wind pole screws in a little. See how you go.
