Have ordered the Fishman Elipse Matrix Blend. Kind of the most expensive option, but looks like what I'm after. I'll let you know how it goes.

Installed the Elipse....very happy with it. I like how you can move the mic around to find the best spot. The piezo gives the brightness and volume, the mic ads the characteristics of the guitar. The adhesive on the pre-amp wasn't great, but a bit of Araldite fixed that. Too bad if I ever want to change it out!

I sold a Furch guitar to Ed at Cadenza guitars, it has a Carlos CP-1 Eric Clapton Limited Black Box pickup in it. You should check it out, as they are rare and some people love them. I never used it myself, but it looks the business.

haha I don’t think so . . . Seriously, who are you? I’m trying to remember who I can think of from ten years ago who has a mega guitar rig and who would be nerdy enough to hang out on forums!

Tim Marsden - Eastside days so I'm thinking that may have been 12+ years ago on reflection...in fact last time you and I probably played together may have been Matt Martyn's 21st with Jared?

In fact I seem to remember playing James from late 80s Japanese ES-175esque thing and it squealing away on me (hollow body / OD inexperience...)

I have a K&K Pure Mini in my Gibson LG-2 and it sounds brilliant. THE most acoustic sounding pickup I've ever owned.

Tricky installation (and kinda permanent) but worth it I reckon.

YMMV etc.

I must say that I agree with Darren, the K&K sounds great. I've had it my Lowden and had OK but not amazing results, but it sounds amazing in Darren's guitar. It's probably mostly due to darren's fingers of awesome though!

I do suspect that the K&K pickups are quite fussy about the preamp you use - Darren has the K&K Pure Preamp (I think) where as I was using a BBE preamp which didn't have the correct input impedance.

Also the K&K is not a great choice if you play in a band situation, they don't play very nice with stage monitors

Tim,/ null_pointer, I remember that gig - think I was playing bass? I must have been very young, maybe 16 or so.

+1 for the DTAR. Also, I'd take everything Darren says with a large pinch of salt. That guy could make a tin can sound like a top of the range classic Gibson. Not sure he could get a bad sound if he tried.
