Good video...good cross overs.

Not much in it to my ears...I would probably go 36th for neck (slightly clearer/thinner...in a good way) and Master in the bridge (hotter, fuller).

I think the 36th are closer to my PAFs than the Masters, but the Masters sure do sound nice too.

Thank you chaps. Interesting to hear Grant's POV seeing as he probably has the most experience with PAFs and boutique replicas and the like.

I really can't make up my mind which set I like better. I hear the PAF Masters and say, man, that's some nice raunchy rock tone, but then 36ths just sound so sweet...

I prefer the 36ths, just a little sweeter. Did you play with a woman tone at all? Most people wouldn't care i suppose but I like to know how neck humbuckers sound with the tone rolled off... I suppose it depends largely on capacitor selection though.

very nice little demo Ed
Must pm ya to get the lowdown on how you put together such a nice video and good sound.
I think the Masters sounded a little more tubular, bell like. Both fine sounding pickups though.

Well, I'm still a novice at video making but I think I'm definitely improving. It's not terribly difficult with modern video editing programs (I use Final Cut Pro X) doing most of the heavy lifting, but there is a bit of a learning curve, and certainly does take a significant investment of time to get multiple shots, splice them to taste, sync them all with the audio, add transitions and so on. For example, this video most of the day on Sunday to shoot and edit (with a bit of time thrown in to swap the pickups) and do the write-up.

I'm far from being an expert but if you or anyone else would like to pick my brain on doing this sort of thing please feel free.

Great vid Ed, but no motivation to ditch my 36th for the Master, phew!

I definitely prefer the 36th bridge pickup, but am increasingly tempted to sub a PAF Master into the neck position. It's just a bit more brash and honky, which I rather like the sound of.

Threads like this make me question how happy I am with my Burstbuckers. Every time I play them I'm really happy, but then Ed posts another thread and I'm wondering if they are PAF enough again.
