Burstbuckers are a good pickup, and are "definitely PAF enough"jimi wrote:Threads like this make me question how happy I am with my Burstbuckers. Every time I play them I'm really happy, but then Ed posts another thread and I'm wondering if they are PAF enough again.
That's the thing about PAF's. There IS no definitive PAF sound. The original PAF's all had marked differences.....different magnet types (they interchanged fairly randomly between AlNiCo 2, 3, 4 and 5) different magnet sizes and very inconsistent in terms of their number of coils.
No two actual PAF's sound the same....and they can sound remarkably different.
The bottom line is If you're playing any AlniCo-based humbucker, would with 42AWG enamel wire to a total reading of 7K-9K DC resistance, then you are "PAF enough".
Variances in these factors above will produce quite different tonal results, and that's where experimentation is fun.
But if you like your Burstbuckers....you are definitely in PAF land, and if you like em....stick with em.
