Since I've had it, I've been trying to get my tele to be everything it isn't. As it is, the only original bits are the switch, a tone pot, body wood + paint, neck, tuners, and ashtray bridge plate. Everything else has been diddled with.
I've gone for big fuckoff frets, an onboard boost, to and fro'd with mini HB's and stacked pickups, back to true single coil tele jobbies.
This time around, what I'm trying to do is find a tele shape, look, and style neck pickup that sounds like a strat neck pickup.
Why? It's about the only sound I don't have.
The Dave murray homebuilt gets close, but a parallel humbucker is still a bit fat, I find. Great for lots of things, except the thin, glassy, bell like, buzzword-y strat neck pickup sound I'm trying to get.TL;DR: Want a neck pickup that looks, fits, and smells like a tele pickup but sounds like a strat neck pickup.
