But it takes me 4 bars.
I was talking 32nd notes - ie: 8 per beat, not 32 per beat!

Is there a type of pick that forces you to practice?

Might grab a chappers one some day. Only thing that stops me via tardme is the NZ seller only couriers, so the postage is half the price of the pick..

Damn right it is. I have enough trouble hanging on to a flatpick, much less doing anything flashy with it.
Having grown up pounding old Martins with them, I've never been able to develop any finesse of the type required for electric. :(

I hybrid pick a lot of the time so I can get that percussive thing a the strings snap back. Think the only way I'd be diddling 32nd notes is if I tapped them.

32nds at 100bpm are easy with legato +hybrid picking a la Tom Quayle. In fact the tricky bit is not rushing.

I imagine having work that doesn't tear your fingernails off would be a bonus too.

I have my speedy bits here and there but I'm more from the Gary Moore (older) school whereby I'd work out a sequence / pattern around a scale and practice the crap out of it (think 'Out in the Fields' solo climbing run). The incredibly fluid, seemingly 'drifting' across the fretboard stuff that Tom Quayle does (based on the little bit of YouTube I just watched) found popularity after I'd already become set in my ways. I think.

Good taste Molly. That’s a cracker of a solo. I used to play it but I doubt I’d remember the fast run now.

And yes the TQ style seems very un-old school. I remember spending weeks getting a fast pattern run down from For the Love of God

Are any of these fancy pants picks available locally or do you have to order them from overseas?
