The "OMG! If Only I Knew back Then" Thread

Post by Slowy »

Opened Guitar Player Magazine from June 1992 today.

This caught my eye:
trainwreck.jpg
Exactly twice the price of the 5150 in the same article and $295 cheaper than the VHT Pitbull.

Final line of the review said, "The waiting list for the Express is quite long. You pay for the amp when it's finished. If you're unhappy for any reason, simply return it within a week for a full refund." :wtf:

If Only I Knew back Then that Dave Grohl was going to play a Trini Lopez.

I got offered a Klon Centaur for US$200 when I was working onboard QE2, would have been late 90's. It was a few days before we could draw our wages and I didn't have enough cash to buy the pedal and maintain my social life.

From memory he traded it for a microphone at a music store in new York.

Bitcoin. $100 of it in 2010 is now $75 million

Music related tho, Les Pauls obviously, but radio valves. Some serious money if you manage to dig up a few thousand old military surplus 12AX7s etc. Knowing they would fetch the kind of money they do now, I would have bought every one i could find back in the 80s.

Lead guitarists don't get the chicks; singers strumming some shit chords on their acoustic do instead.

I should have kept my 60's AC30 I had in the late 80's also the pair of Leek Point One and Quad mono block HiFi amps. Then there was my Linn Sondeck and all my vinyl. Oh and the two Quality Street tins of NOS valves I dumped in a skip along with the HiFi amps in 1999 when I moved house.

I guess Apple shares would have been good too.
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

You threw away the Leak pre and power amps???

I have a mate who is massively into his vintage hi-fi, I think he'd have a little cry if I told him that.

I had a pair of Leak TL/12's, a pair of Quad II's and a Quad 22 pre-amp. I ran them into massive horn speakers which were about 6ft tall. It was all passed down to me from grandad. When I bought my first house I had to get rid of the horn speakers as I had no room. The amps when in the cupboard under the stairs for years and eventually went in a skip. Fucking idiot looking back now.
