GAS tank empty...?
Despite the underlying desire for new toys, I haven't really felt the strong pull of GAS in some time now. For me, my tone quest mostly ended when I got my Quick Rod & matching cab and solidified once I upgraded to the ME80 and my PRS Holcomb about a year ago. It's a versatile rig which covers off most bases bar the extreme clean and Nordic metal sounds, though a simple guitar change can actually solve that by going to either my Tele or old Ibanez.
I still trawl TM most days, but there is nothing I really "need" at present. I have a fully compatible second rig in my SG/Blackstar HT100 /Mesa 2x12 that I use in my side project but can fully cover off my main band. Still get a bit of single-coil lust from time to time and Jazzmasters, Mustangs, Jags and the like catch my eye, but then once I end up playing them, I remember why I love humbuckers so much.
Starting to wonder if I have reached the end of the tone quest that began in my teens and intensified in my mid 20's when I was most active musically and seems to have quelled itself by the time I hit my mid 30's. Before I got my PRS, I hadn't been excited about a guitar in a few years and my attitudes to them had changed a lot, when I dropped the big ticket items and started going for instruments under 1k, which I've long felt have superior bang for buck and resale.
Certainly know that a few of you here are still chasing the dragon though anyone else mostly cool with where they are at? Or still hunting out that certain sound?

Vintage GAS can never be cured....or funded.

Re: GAS tank empty...?
When I got my Orange Rockerverb mk2 head and cab it pretty much killed all amp and drive pedal GAS for me, it's the sound I've had in my head the entire time i've been playing guitar Now unfortunately the GAS is geared towards the right guitar... Damn if p90s don't sound absolutely insane through that thing...

Re: GAS tank empty...?
I don't actually think I've had GAS for a while in its true sense...I'm just curious to try new stuff, and some of the stuff I already have I'm not emotionally tied to enough to not sell (or not know I can always rebuy). The reality is I have far more than whatever 'gas drive' may have spurred the purchase requires so its more out of interest. One of those 'be good to see what that feels like/sounds like' type things.

Re: GAS tank empty...?
My tone quest is always about getting my guitar to sound the same thru studio monitors as the recording I am listening to and trying to play. I have not tried Kemper yet, so the Laney IRT is doing the best job yet of any gear I have had. It is damn hard. Thinking of buying a bunch of so called foundation overdrives like Catalinbread Formula 5F6 to run into the clean channel and give the Laney a wider pallet. Might be easier to get Joe Walsh tones that way. Also want the RAH and maybe a BE-OD
Working with the Laney is tricky, because settings that sounded good yesterday may not today. Digital modelling presets are so much more consistent.
I am not quite as compulsive with GAS as I was.

Re: GAS tank empty...?
I haven't really had GAS since I got the new Reverend. I have great gear. I'm not playing much at the moment. Sometimes in my shop I play through amps that are way cheaper than mine and I think 'man, this amp sounds great, why do I have such an expensive amp? This would be fine'. But at my last band practice I played through the good Dr Z for the first time in a while, with the Rev DA and my old faithful pedal board, which hasn't really changed in about 7 years. Honest to God tonal nirvana. I remembered why that amp works so well for me. I love my guitars, I love my amp, I love my pedals. Having my own shop means I get to try a lot of gear. A lot of it I think gosh, this would be nice to own. But I don't actually feel the need for any more stuff. I certainly wouldn't be prepared to sell any of the stuff I have to get anything else at this point in time.

Re: GAS tank empty...?
Never really been hunting a certain sound, just bought great to distract me from playing and improving, in a much happier place now (most of the time)...

Re: GAS tank empty...?
This forum has supplied me with too much excellent gear already.
Always enjoy a perve at some of the vintage gear porn that gets posted, but these days I have more guilt from too much nice gear, than GAS for more of it.
Feeling pretty lucky about it all really.

Needs: Fully satisfied. Have been for a long time.
Wants: If I found a spare $30k, just watch me!
Curiosity: Guarantees the bank account will tick over slowly.
Discovered my sound is mid heavy which doesn't sit well with the band I'm temporarily a member of. Has caused a bit of spending here & there.

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Did you pay someone to turn the mids down on your EQ?Slowy wrote:Discovered my sound is mid heavy which doesn't sit well with the band I'm temporarily a member of. Has caused a bit of spending here & there.

Re: GAS tank empty...?
Similar boat to you now. 3 amps, 3 guitars and pedals have been reduced to what I feel I 'need'. Finally happy enough with my sound/tone - and ultimately for me that's usually the cause of GAS for me.
Having said all of that, looking through GrantB's Gibson thread has refuelled my obviously suppressed desires for a nice LP.

Re: GAS tank empty...?
I want the sound of the 60's and 70's. Psychedelic, Hendrix sound. I just need a Strat for the last piece of the puzzle. Vibes, fuzz, wah, Shin-Ei, Roger Mayer concoctions, stereo sound... real space head stuff.
I want that.
I want that.

Now I've hit on a combination I'm genuinely happy with I'm looking at the peripheral gear and wondering what to do with it. I'll buy another Two Rock if one turns up and I'd love an early LP Custom reissue with P90s, but that aside my GAS lamp is is just about completely out.

Re: GAS tank empty...?
No GAS for me whatsoever with amps. AX8 kills it for practise and gigs, and I've barely scratched the surface of what I could do with it. For the valve feels I whip the Mark V out. A matching Mesa cab wouldn't go astray though!
Guitars, well I'm lucky to have what I have, and I'm happy with each one. Anything new will be well down the track now after I concentrate on doing my house up. An LP Custom or R-something preferably. My money is now destined for bathrooms, fences and a jam room.
