Digital reverb an' that...
Contemplating a posh reverb but wonder if I should just stick with my Boss RV-5?
I tend to set-and-forget delay and reverb so would I come to think a Strymon somethin' or other was a waste of money or would it enhance things to the extent that I'll wonder how I ever got by without one?

I use set and forget that final reverb/delay, but I have been thinking that one that you can 'swell' in and out (or just change the effect level) with an expression pedal would be cool.
They keep telling me tone is in the fingers, but I have yet to see a "look at my fingers" thread.

Anyone telling you that you need to get a Strymon is only saying that because they want to buy it cheap off you in a week.Molly wrote:Contemplating a posh reverb but wonder if I should just stick with my Boss RV-5?

But for realises, the big spendy verbs are more geared to those who are anchored in Ambient/Post-Rock land.
If big ambient noodly washes aren't your thing, I wouldn't go for something you'd need to plonk lots of coin on. That said, a Flint covers a whole heap of bases.

Re: Digital reverb an' that...
You can have my Flint, Just as long as you find me a Bigsky to replace it with for not much more.......I'm sure that was really helpful!
I think the RV5 is pretty solid but does sound a little sterile when comparing to the more recent digital reverbs.
If you just set and forget then there would be a number of reverbs that would do a good job, depends on your flavour preferences.
Do you want a good Spring sound? Or you prefer plate or hall?
Digitech Supernatual or Polara have some of the best plates and Sping sounds, Neunaber has a fantastic sound but I would say it's sort of non specific and works equally well for ambient as it does for an always on sound but it doesn't remind of a specific type of reverb.
Flint has an awesome big hall sound, Plate and Spring are pretty decent but there are probably better pedals that do those sounds.
What type of verb are you wanting?

Re: Digital reverb an' that...
The Topanga is a very fine facsimile of the Fender Outboard Reverb.
While touted as spring reverb, the different flavours you can get that don't actually sound too springy are nice while still being able to get as washy as you like.
The modulation trick is also pretty cool and the volume boost on the Topanga is quite awesome.
My 2 cents.

Flint
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...
