EVERY SINGLE BOSS DRIVE/DISTORTION
After a month or two of equal parts procrastination and actually being insanely busy, I finally knuckled down and cranked out my demo of all the current production Boss overdrive/distortion pedals.
I've gotta say - we spend so much time these days chasing boutique pedals that sometimes you forget that Boss pedals sell by the truckload for a reason! I'm especially impressed by the Waza and "-X" series updates, they all sound very organic and versatile.
And hey, even old staples like the Metalzone can achieve some pretty decent tones in the right hands (aka NOT 15 year old me).
Check out the video on Youtube for timestamps to jump straight to particular pedals

Interesting demo. A lot of work you put into that Ed. Nice lick too.
Sooo much choice and most of them sounded similar to my ol' ears. How can one possibly make a choice?

When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

Cheers! Yeah I literally spent a few weeks trying to figure out what the guitar loop should be.jvpp wrote:Interesting demo. A lot of work you put into that Ed. Nice lick too.

Haha well at some point it becomes a matter of which feature set works best for you I guess. You're right, most of them can probably cover *similar* tonal ground - but they're pretty versatile too!

Haha no - though I will have to check and see whether I have enough patch cables to actually do this. All but 2 of them have batteries so it might actually be achievable...sirvill wrote:I'll watch this at lunchtime but.....
...did you put them all on at once?

OD1-X and OD3 were my favourite. Footloose riff is in my head now
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

They've always been the Corolla of pedals to me... easy to use, work for most applications and above all, reliable. Aesthetically they're kinda blunt and industrial, but who buys a pedal with their eyes?
Blinfold test, I'd be hard pressed to tell apart a lot of boutique FX from their Boss counterparts, but perhaps I just have average Joe hearing

Re: EVERY SINGLE BOSS DRIVE/DISTORTION
I really like the Waza pedals. The voicing switch on them seems to yield rounder, slightly softer clipping - sounds a lot more in that boutique ballpark of tone that Boss have been missing out on.Lyle wrote:Nice! I liked those Waza pedals, hadn't heard of them before.
