Buy something really expensive....like a JMI AC30 or maybe a Gibson Firebird or something...that will calm things down for a while. You will need to continue to masturbate though as you'll not be getting any, or so I was told. :shifty:

More band = less GAS after an initial spike. Also more focus on playing than gadgets.
Doesn't work for me!

Is it the same though?

You know where you're going to play, and when. You know you'll have an audience, etc, etc. Being in a band is also about the whole world of being in a band, from finding gigs, doing artwork, recording, trying to get people to listen to your recording, etc, etc, etc. Plus, there's all the stuff about deciding what sort of band you want to be.

Being in a band makes it worse. I went from bedroom rig (tiny amp, 1 guitar and virtually no pedals) to a full stage rig, multiple guitars and a PTpro covered in toys. And a PA. And a lighting rig. Being in a band requires so much more than being a bedroom player

Good questions, Vince, and I'd have to say that worship is quite different, to be honest. Not meaning to disrespect hardworking church musicians though.

Oh, and I find the ultimate De-GASer is to be busy with gigs, every weekend at least. Over summer I must have gone 5 months without buying any gear apart from one mic, and I didn't want that, it was more that I needed a matched pair. I didn't even really think about gear, until all the gigs slowed

Well we don't get paid for it (until our heavenly reward), but we still have to have the right gear to suit what songs are going to be played.
I regularly use my doubleneck, or 6 & 12 string acoustics or which electric that I think will fit. Then there is what effects to use - if any.
Epiphone Riviera P93 & EJ200CE, Hagstrom Viking Bass, Doubleneck bass/guitar.
Rivera Clubster 45, Carvin AG100D, Ashton BSK158.

I agree with the band thing, I used to change gear a bit but not as much.
I think the main diffrence for me is forums creating gas, I had barely visited a forum when I was gigging regularly, now I'm a regular on this one, TPG, TDPRI etc and it all just adds fuel to the fire! Still playing P&W but it's not really the same (although the peer pressure in that scene to have the must have gear is high) it's a different beast.

LOL, unless you're in a covers band, it's highly unlikely you will get any actual money from being in an originals type band. And I don't even have a heavenly reward coming to me!

Yeah, there may be $$ at the end of the night but it'll be a drop in the bucket of what it's cost to get there.

The bit about having the right gear is interesting. Is that just you? I ask because there's always the thread where some guy points out that pub audiences don't often notice the gear you're using. On the other hand, church, where presumably, people are not half-pissed, could be a more discerning environment...

I think GAS is a very predictable outcome of not having somewhere to go with your music. If you're in a band or recording stuff, you have a framework in which to judge whether your gear is fit for purpose. You might need a bigger amp to keep up with a loud drummer, for example, but mostly it's very specific stuff like that.

But when that purpose is open ended, you will always want new gear. How can you know if you're satisfied when there is no target?

Trademe madness thread aside I haven't browsed trademe in ages.

This place alone has enough stuff on offer to keep me sleeping on the couch for a lifetime.

As said previously when my band is active my GAS dies off nicely. It's only during dry spells between gigs I get an itch to add another guitar to the cupboard.
