If I were you I'd hit one of these and forget the shipping issues.

I've bought using the ebay global shipping programme. Ebay pre-clears and pre-pays all NZ customs charges before the item leaves the USA, and while it took a while to go from the US seller to the central US eBay shipping depot then on to an international flight, it was very quick once it arrived in NZ getting to my door due to the pre-clearance. Took 3 1/2 weeks altogether.

My problem is how is it calculated? it always seems like a random number? I too did the same with a guitar. It went from one side of the US to the other and back again and then finally to NZ! but like you, once here it literally took a day to get to my door.

Can't be hard - it's all based on percentages. Last one, the figure looked about what I expected for shipping plus NZ GST and charges. In fact, the shipping was on the cheap side from the US, I thought, compared to USPS prices from dealers I've bought from previously.
