Which clip on tuner for best tone?
I need a clip on tuner but I don't want one that sucks tone. I read that Tommy Emmanuel has been using the polyclip, TC Electronics. Would that be the best option or are there others worth considering? The tone I'm looking for is sort of Stevie Ray Vaughan/Kirk Hamlet/The Edge/Dave Mustang/Andy Mcgee.

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

Maybe you should ask someone that works in a music store.mr_sooty wrote:I need a clip on tuner but I don't want one that sucks tone. I read that Tommy Emmanuel has been using the polyclip, TC Electronics. Would that be the best option or are there others worth considering?

Re: Which clip on tuner for best tone?
imo tonesuck issues with headstock tuners come down to two basic issues.
1. the extra weight on the headstock disturbing the natural equilbrim inherent in the mass / stiffness ratio of the guitar - guitars with higher torsion like a lightweight tuner, but on say a parker fly you need a solid brass clipon.
2. the unavoidable tonesuck caused by the flexibility of the clip itsself. ive spent hours trying various spring types / brands, and have decided that the joyo clone tuner clip springs are allmost as good as the american ones whittled from spring steel. and cost heaps less.
my gold standard for tuner clips is to use the top clip from a polytune with the bottom clip from a snark. try it, you get extra high end (poly) with the warm mids of the snark. an undeniable boost in toan!

Mids so haunting that demons took over my living room and now my guitar glows!

Let's try some basic diagnostics. Where abouts are you clipping the tuner that you are getting tone suck? If it is on the strings, I think I can see the issue.

I have the korg one, it's true bypass, when you take it off theres no noticeable difference in the toans.

All tuners suck tone, you can only avoid it by using your ears, but keep them at least 2 feet from the guitar.
Tube amp and guitar tones straight from 1958… amazing how believable the sounds were back then, even without the modellers...

According to Joe Bonosarama, the battery type in your clip-on has a drastic effect on tone. I'd suggest trying some different battery brands before buying a whole new tuner.
Ummm....
