New Strymon on the way soon.

Post by KentNZ »

This teaser pic posted on Facebook got the speculators going a bit mental. Some kind of time based machine - hoping its a digital analog delay variant. Might have a synth component - with bit values showing (maybe models early digital delays by changing bit depth?)

There's a dotted note, which might indicate a delay. What do the un-blurred letters say? "adm"?

Dig = Dirt = Overdrive?

With delay :)

Not sure about the pink! Unless it's an homage to the DM-3.

Hmmm, but I think Strymon have delays covered (Timeline, El Cap, Brig), though they're all DPS based - could be space for a true analog with bells and whistles...

I think it's a delay. They do a tape echo sim (El Capistan), an analog sim (Brigader) and now I think an 80's/90's digital delay, for a full spectrum of delay chaos

I'd concur with Ben. Time for a delay with clean repeats switchable 'bit quality', maybe some glitch effects and shimmer?

Exciting. This is what I've been waiting for... a small box 'digital' delay from them.

TimeLine does clean repeats, lofi (bitcrush) and shimmer already.

But there's always room for more delays!

Yes, which kind of reinforces the point. If you're going to cover the spectrum of delays with single, more simple units than the big box models, you'll work your way around the timeline delay-machine knob and go... What's missing from our small box range...?

If it's what we think, it might finally be time to retire the brig.

Hopefully it's a digital, there seems to be a shortage of small digital delays that aren't trying to be analog or tape

Also I believe the small ones have more features, like the El Cap has hidden features like tape age and so forth, and the Timeline doesn't. So I;m sure they will add some goodness to the Dig

This.

I was looking for another delay for ages that did clean, analog dry through, and high quality - and every time something comes out they're saying 'it sounds just like tape...'

I just noticed something - the dotted 8th graphic is on a knob, not a switch - as you might typically expect. So that's a continuously variable time knob that adjusts your delay repeats relative to the tempo (as opposed to independent of tempo which is what a normal time knob would), perhaps a bit like a 'swing' button on a drum machine - might give the ability to have consistent, but unusual repeats etc?

Unless its just a 'notched' knob for selecting discrete times. But Strymon tend to be more creative (and make more use of features) than that.

Someone commented on the FB post about these adm machines, and they're in the racks in an earlier blog post. Yep, some kind of delay.

this is in the rack too

I think I can see a fuzzy crotchet further round that knob, maybe it's a continuous subdivision control?
