Finally finished my review of the RK5! http://sixstringsamurai.co.nz/2015/04/1 ... k5-flyrig/
Really cool pedal. Replacing the somewhat generic (but good sounding) Plexi Drive section with Richie's new OMG Drive really floats my boat, personally. It's a really unique and organic high gain tone which doesn't seem to be aping any other particular classic tone. Kinda wish it had a tighter low end but I guess that's not what Mr Kotzen had in mind.
I found the SansAmp clean bit a little flat on its own but once you add some reverb and delay in there it starts to sound really quite nice!
And it looks a lot sexier than the regular FlyRig, haha.

Nice review.
Got a bit of GAS for one of these and this was not the mylanta to my gas problem! Thankfully!!
Always a good read your reviews.

I agree about the dry clean tone, I have the Tech21 Blonde, which I think is basically the same, and on a true clean tone, it's pretty lifeless. Bit of reverb or delay makes a big difference. Subtle compressor would be good too

Damn Ed, always love hearing what clips you come up with. This sounds great, tone and playing.

Enjoyed this as well Ed. have made a concerted effort in recent years to listen to RK's stuff.... is he still using a signature Cornford? I heard one of these in Oz on my last trip there... really, really nice tones.

Thanks chaps! The clip was shorter than I wanted it to be, but I think it did okay getting the message across.
I don't think RK is with Cornford any more. I know he's been using an 18W or similar Marshall and I'm pretty sure he just straight up built his own amp for one of his last albums. Because being an amazing singer, guitarist, bassist, drummer and keyboard player wasn't enough for him.

One of the cool things about Richie Kotzen's one is they have modded it to provide phantom power to his wah. cool idea.
Still needs an xlr out with ground lift, and a mini tuner.

They keep telling me tone is in the fingers, but I have yet to see a "look at my fingers" thread.

Yup. He's back with Marshall. Usually uses a 20w 2061X head. For bigger venues he'll use a 100w 1959.

All I really want is a remaster of Fever Dream.
