Shame about the no-trem rule given the nice Model 6 that's been mentioned here. You'd think by now there'd be a drop-in hard-tail adapter of some sort.

I have thought about that; I currently own a Tim Mahoney SE which is nice enough, but doesn't quite feel 100% what I'm after. Pickups might help, but with the cost of them & install, I'd rather buy something else that maybe has all the work done and plays a bit more to my liking.

And maybe isn't so pale blue, which I'm not fond of haha.

Fair enough man. The LTD 351 etc seem to pop up in your bracket occasionally, have EMGs and I believe come in a hardtail config. There's been a Schecter Blackjack Tempest floating round TM too at your price, but that's kinda LP shape.

I have been eyeing the LTD, it fits the bill and the price range...

You could talk him down to a lower price for just the guitar, or buy both for the start price and then look to flick on the amp for a small offset?
