Looky here, y'all got me excited when you said 'cheap'. My sporran started a quivering an all an all. Then I read $2.5k and realised - we live in different lives...
He hit a chord that rocked the spinet and disappeared into the infinite ...

*wamp-wamp-wamp-wahhhhhhh*

Guitar Gallery is a rip. I sold a better condition Gibson LP Stdio about a month ago for $1600 and I thought that was a cheeky price. You can buy a new Standard for not much more than that in most places....

you're not keen on this gat, are you? Sorry, the alarm bells are rining for me. I've had a couple of mates burned by GG on stuff which was sold to them as "new" but was in fact shop-soiled or returned.

caveat emptor, my friend, or as we say in the english "buyer beware".....

Especially as middle late 70's/80's Gibsons were before the revival in quality/attention to detail of the 90's. You can find a nice one but the quality could be very average.

I reckon becuase of this you should start with a ball park figure of the $1600 of the LP Studio (maybe even lower) and if they don't want to negociate on an 80's guitar then walk away.

Alos another thought is what sort of long term problems smoke and presumably heat damage does to LP's?? for example will the neck warp slowly over time (the truss rod won't stop major warping)??

A white? Standard gold hardware and all mid 80's I think would be a crap gat. I've never seen or heard of a White Standard before, that's more a LP Custom thing. Some of you Wgton guys should go and give it a good blast and see what it's like. I once had an 88 Standard and it sounded like crap no matter what I did to it,spank stroke or cuddle nothing worked she was a dog, luckily it was stolen so now someone else has got the problem sore back and ears
Doin' that scrapyard thing.

nah im not keen on buying it.. just though someone might be..

hmm from what scarecrow said GG isn't very good at describing products.

i don't want to sound evil cuz the owner knows me, but i did have one of my guitars set up there once and the guy who did it totally screwed it up.. i had to take it to another guitar place and have it PROPERLY set up..

I've had mixed waves from a couple of visits to GG - sometimes it seemed like they cared and knew other times - ummm sort of got the feeling that it was 'here's another sucker'.
