You can record via the line out. OK it's no focusrite, but it does well enough for remembering some riffs.
The line out does disable the speakers though.

yeah, that's true. What I meant was that if you were on a computer that didn't have an audio input or ability to record or was just a pain to get working. eg. in my example I play the backing track from my MacBook Pro out the headphone socket, which I believe is also co-incidentally the mic/line input socket for built in recording.JHorner wrote:You can record via the line out. (My audio interface is via the Firewire usually but was outside in the studio most of the time)

The ID Core series has a usb interface, I guess they're kinda aiming that at someone who wants to "do it all"sty wrote:yeah, that's true. yep.
And just to be clear, it's not a real weakness, just a "man this could only be improved by..."
I'd buy another Fly3 in a heartbeat if it were any cheaper and I were passing a store selling them

I guess in that scenario it's monitoring that is the problem.sty wrote:yeah, that's true. Untested idea:
Import backing track to DAW (good, now you can mix the tracks)
Laptop out set to laptop speakers (ewww)
Y splitter out of fly3
A goes to laptop line in
B goes to headphones
Use one ear on headphones to hear what you're playing
Use one ear to listen to backing track coming out of laptop speakers
^^^ crappy setup if it even works ^^^

great idea, not sure if it will work, but nice lateral thinking
In all honesty it isn't a problem, just an opportunity
How are you getting on with the Fly 3 now? you've had them a while?

Idea didn't work, though possibly due to dud splitter.sty wrote:JHorner wrote:Untested idea:

I've had the fly 3 for 3 days, getting along with it fine, I think it needs an OD pedal in front of it though. The inbuilt gain is feeble. Sounds better with a Klon type thing in front of it.

Nice little trade right there.
Larrivee 00 Acoustic. FAV Strat for electric. Ibanez SDGR5 for bass. Push for Ableton. When not doing that, 3D CAD for tunnels...

Well today I accidentally bought a $3k watch I'd been hunting down for a while.
Amp GAS will have to wait a few more months I guess.
