Been looking for something that offers a point of difference to my existing guitars (two Strats, a HH PRS SC, and a Tele). Thought about a 335 but couldn't bring myself to pay local prices. The idea of a black LP P90 Custom 54 Reissue with a Bigsby really appealed but I hadn't a hope in Hell of finding one at anything like my budget.

Then I started beating myself up for always having one eye on the eventual sale of the guitar. Nobody else does this, I thought. Not if they've any sense. I should just buy something I like that ticks the 'point of difference' boxes. Such First World problems... I had loads of guitars saved to Favourites and was going round and round in circles with different justifications or reasons not to proceed. A gold LP Traditional. Too expensive considering the condition even if it was cheap for up here. A posh PRS limited-edition thing. Not different enough to my SC. A cheap SG. It was a cheap SG... In the end I went back to this. It's not the '54 Custom but it offers something different and was priced exactly as it would be in NZ (which did make me feel a bit better). It's mint, apparently, and at least means I won't wake tomorrow with buyer's remorse having dropped $5k or a pretty ordinary R7 or some such (I like R7s but not at $5k - and they're still a SC HH so too close to my PRS).

Anyway, it's this:

The fan-boy in me liked it when I saw Jason Isbell playing one.

Bought this Suhr Badger 30 amp and cab.

Pete Thorn gets a nice range of tones from it. Mind, he makes everything sound great.

I think Matteus Asato uses a Badger too. Very nice amp! Have you got the '68 DRRI yet?

Cancelled it.... :-(

Woke with buyer's remorse. Andertons were find and dandy with it. Did think at the time I might buy that second-hand Friedman Buxom Betty but that was $2,800 without a cab. The Suhr does more, came with a cab and was $700 cheaper. Typical NZ price but cheap for here.

So, nothing even remotely SRV-voiced I guess though if you watch the Pete Thorn video he manages to get something close.

Interested to hear your opinion on that one - I really dig mine. Sits in the effects loop, delay aside everything just sounds fuller when it’s on.

Might get you there, I dunno, but their JTM pedal dimed sure sounds like early live Clapton recordings so I'd give them the benefit of the doubt

Suhr Badger 30 head. Safely arrived. Looks mint. Picking up the cab from the guy in Brighton in a couple of weeks.

That's the plan. Bought it via Reverb. Being a bit nervous about it I had the guy post the head even though I'm going to be collecting the cab from his place in a couple of weeks. He did a great job packing it and included the original chicken-head knobs (though I quite like the Friedman-style knobs on there). The cab's a matching 212.

Mrs is talking about us returning between Christmas and New Year so the kids can have a cold, maybe white Christmas. Don't know if I can go that long without my gear and tools. :-(
