I've had this thing about a week or so. Came down with a nasty cold virus at the same time of arrival. So in no fit state to crank it up when your head hurts and tinnitus active.
Anyway couple of nights ago I plug it in. Initial thoughts are it's big, clean & spanky sounding. If I wind it up say about 7-8 it is quite noisy with white sound & hum, not excruciating loud but big, slightly breaking clean and spanky.
Sounds nice enough just playing little bits & pieces quiet maybe a little ice picky.
I'm getting a bit of static like crackles which is off putting, suspect output valves or rec valve might need attention. Open the bonnet me thinks.
Amp would be about 20 years old. Beautifully looked after by previous owner, looks new. Hardly if ever been bounced off the walls or loaded in with other tolex mauling objects. Who knows how hard it's worked in a playing sense.

Anyway a little underwhelmed so far. I read a review before I got it and they described pretty much every thing I experienced with this amp too.

Who knows, workshop session, hit the front end hard with boost and brake the output with the THD hotplate. To get somewhere close to how I imagined it.

Looks cool. Get a bit of Rory happening with that THD.

That is a beauty!. Clarry has one too and heard him play it a few years back. No funny noises at all as you describe, so sure it can be fixed.

Everything is repairable in these things. I love the look! And Jensens!

A friend of mine in Wellington had one of these. That was about 14 years ago. I knew less than nothing about guitars and amps back then. All I remembered was how freakishly loud it was! Oh, also, it was also very heavy! Looked really cool though.

Ah that's the thing with this one, it is not too heavy to lug around. Relativity to my Fender Twin (red dog) 100 watter which makes everything thing else seem light.

You mean this particular model tweed Bassman is lighter than other tweed Bassmans? If that's the case, what're the contributing factors here?

No they (tweed versions) are generally lighter than some other big bore Fenders. Mostly those 10" Alnico speakers being light.

if it hasn't been used much, a bit of basic service and a good crank should bring it back to 100%

Try using some contact cleaner on the the sockets, jacks, knobs and see if that make any difference.

Yes that's a good call, connectivity maintenance first.

Wow... according to Google they weigh around 53 lbs! Apparently 65 Twin Reverb are around 64 lbs!

When getting into 100 watt territory the transformer or 'iron' gets big and heavy. Large ceramic speakers too.

Only 24 Kg, my vibro King has 3 x 10" speakers and is 30 Kg.

Yeah the twin reverbs are no fun to cart around

I made a lightweight 4x12 Marshall a few years back - it had 2 speakers(like a detuned cab) and was made from pine.

I could carry it with one hand

That is eye candy. Tweed, valves and AlNiCo - mmmm
