Took delivery of a Wizard Modern Classic yesterday. These are made by AC/DC's long time (1990-2014) amp tech Rick St Pierre. This is one of the higher gain models (but not their most hi-gain offering).

It has a punchy articulation akin to Fryette, the massive 3D-ness of a SLO100, but it's unmistakably Marshall-based. It's got that "kerrang" of a good Marshall but without the harsh fizziness. I wasn't too sold on the Friedman's I've tried since they sounded too smooth and "polite", Wizard seemed to get the balance right.

Reamped from Ola Englund multitracks (drop A?):

My own shitty playing (drop D):

It's hopefully the last hi gain amp I'd buy hahaha, basically got all grounds covered by now.

Very nice amp.
The preamp is actually a Marshall jubilee with a plexi boost stage in front of it! It has the usual Marshall tone stack too instead of the Jube weird ass fx loop+ tone stack thing.

From what I can gather (haven't found any schematic on the newer models), the older models were a bit more rooted in Jubilee (ie LED clipping that are always on). The newer ones seem to have a bit more tube gain but still have push-pull pots to kick in the LED/diodes if you want to. Gets a bit grainy for me with these on so I leave them off.

Thank GodGrinder to let me had a quick jam on it today, wish I could play some AC/DCs to justify the glorious tone, but my shitty Thrash riffs never sounded this ridiculously good, what a beast!

Fuck, time to quit buying fifis.

Yes you're right about the older ones -jube diodes are always on. On the older MC the boost switches were just cathode bypass caps and the jube diodes were always connected.
I'm not sure about the newer ones though... If you ever feel like letting me look inside it I'd be keen as :D
