Tube rattle

Post by Mini Forklift »

Haven’t looked into this much yet, but was wondering if there’s any easy fixes? Not sure if it’s preamp or power tubes, happening from the moment there’s sound so it’s likely not a temperature thing.

Head is secure on the cab and all the tubes appear to be locked in tight :-(

Take the head off the cab.

tap each valve with a chopstick (while turned on obviously), that will tell you if a valve is at fault.
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

So guessing the culprit(s) will sound different to the others? It’s a brand new amp and they’re all brand new tubes btw.

in theory it should rattle when you tap it... if you don't get a rattle on any of them, its time to look elsewhere. Even new valves can be bad.

The rattle could be coming from elsewhere, pays to stick your ear up against the back of the head and then the cab and work around from there, could be something as simple as a loose bolt or screw.

Absolutely love it, simply can’t fault it. And the boost channel is good enough that I don’t even need an OD pedal :-)
