IOS: AmpliTube vs PositiveGrid vs ???

Post by Kiwiaxe »

Surely some other folks must have gone down this rabbit hole before?

I’m after something I can use with headphones on my iPad while I travel. I’ve bought an IK Multimedia iRig HD2 thingie (thanks Conway for the recommendation). Any insights? Or more to the point, can I please learn from others’ mistake rather than learn things the hard way myself :P

I use Amplitube 3 for jamming at home through headphones.
Sounds awesome! Never had experiences with those others though

I use PositiveGrid on the desktop (Windows) only, but no experience on devices (iOS or Android). I think BG has PositiveGrid too, at least on desktop. I'm surprised nobody else has replied to this... maybe nobody uses devices much? Oleg travels regularly, I'm sure there are others here too.

I got both when they were on sale. They are both probably pretty much the same soundwise, with good sound for use with headphones etc. Positive grid is a bit more fun, as you can play around with the different parameters etc. I think they may have just released version 2 on ios. I think it is free to download the basic program. Amplitude also have a free download to try.

Yeah I have desktop versions of both positive grid modellers but stopped using them when I went back to dedicated hardware. Never used either on IOS.
So, is that low alcohol or no alcohol at all? mmmm, no alcohol, do you want to try it? Noooooooooo.

Yup, I have both Bias Amp 2 and Bias FX Pro. Once you sort out your amp design in Bias Amp 2 you can use them with effects in Bias FX Pro. Since I'm a noob at guitaring it's a good way to practice and record.

Amplitude, helix, TH3.. all excellent and versatile.
One that can load external impulse responses is generally a good idea, but all of those can be used as a vst with an external impulse loader so no biggie.
Bias Amp 2 comes with celestion impulses responses which sound pretty good

I have both on the ipad, prefer positive grid over amplitube in general. But don't really enjoy either to be honest. I have to be super lazy to not walk to the office and turn on the laptop with S-Gear to end up using these.

I'll likely just take the iRig HD I have back to the folks in CHCH so when I am down there visiting I have something to use. In short I reckon, they're alright at a pinch, but laptop and interface are infinitely better.
