Carvin VL100 Transformer

Post by NuggetyClump »

Hi I'm new to forums etc but I have a Steve Vai Sig Carvin VL100 with a blown power transformer and am after a suitable replacement, Carvin stock them but do not ship globally, they also went into liquidation last week, my local Audio electrician said that I might be able to get a marshall one to work but this is confusing to me. can anyone help me find the right one to buy, I love this amp and tone and I'm completely crushed.

There's nothing terribly special about a power transformer. It just needs to output about the right voltage and be able to handle the current demands.

Looking at the schematic, the voltage requirement are pretty much Marshall spec, so any 100W rated marshall type power transformer will be fine. The bias circuit might need a tweak if it's out of spec but otherwise it's all very trivial stuff for anyone who understands tube amps
