Braking news..the local RS is selling the Magnatone apparently!!
A mate tried one when he was overseas and said it was the sweetest bestest sounding booteek amp ever! Of course this is subjective but any one gassing for one yet?

That price though

One of the Phil X Evil Robot amps would be cool, it's based on a Magnatone Tonemaster I believe.... and they weren't too pricey new...

Road trip around the US taking in guitar fairs and gigs. Chuck in a few classic Harley dealerships along the way for good measure too. That'd be one cool way to spend a couple of weeks.

Got anything special on the shopping list?

I played a late '50s Magnatone Troubadour once, the pitch shifting vibrato/trem still haunts me, there's nothing quite like it!

There was a great thread over at The Amp Garage forum a couple of years back about recreating the parameters for the varistors used in the originals. Found it:

Magnatone amps are fantastic! Like all such amps though - you don't get the proper goods till they are LOUD. Those living in the city need not apply.

Locally brewed craft beer
The Tex Mex restaurant around the corner
A bundle of strings at $3 a pack
Maybe a hollow Tele body
Maybe something else.....

Cant wait! The 24 hour journey is a bit of a drag though.

You mean like a match in the tank part? That thing....anywho, we're slowly winning.

Might look at some parts, yeah, if I can get one of the CV carbs....maybe.

I'm with you here...much greener, friendlier, less "gunny" than most think. Some beautiful places there. Some shit holes too of course.

Where in TX are you headed Grant?
I spend up big on strings every trip, can't quite get over how much they cost in NZ.
