Considering the price of the other stuff he's selling, I'd guess this one is overpriced too.
Yeah, felt overpriced to me too. Was considering making a cheeky offer since he's relisted it a few times. I borrowed a 5e3 a while back and liked it quite a bit.

I don't reckon that's overpriced myself. That was made by a member here (Tubeswell) and will be an absolutely top-notch build. You're always going to struggle to sell something like this on, but it will give all but the very best 5E3 clones a run for their money IMO.

Soldano speaker seems like an odd choice?

I actually reckon it's a pretty cool choice for a 5E3. The Soldano (Eminence) X12000 (or whatever it's called) is a pretty dark speaker and would smooth a 5E3 out in a lovely way, I would guess.

Oh, and welcome back!!!!

And cheers :-)

Apparently the X12000's don't perform too well in open back cabs and that's why Soldano eventually eschewed these for V1216's.

They sound great in closed back cabs though.

Interesting... I have a pair of these in a closed 2x12 cab. It sounded very nice with my Laney IRT-Studio but I did contemplate partially opening the cab before I sold the amp.

So, little update from me on this quest...

Tried a Katana at the Rockshop today. (they didn't have Blues Jrs in stock and don't stock Vox AC10's). And....

Yeah, not for me. It sounded fine, for what it was, and 13 year old me would've thought it was a big step above my Ashton and Zoom 505 combo. But it didn't blow me away, and it made me realise that what I want is one great sound from an amp, to modify with pedals. So, yay, clarity, at least.

Clarity is a tall order for an amp

Transparency then? :-)

Though, given I don't have an amp at the moment, my tone is really transparent as is.

If it helps, MP Wellington has Blues Juniors, AC10s and AC15s in stock.

Got the chance to have a quick play on an AC15, AC10 and Blues Jr thanks to Polar Bear. (Cheers man!)

I liked them all.

The Fender had that forgiving bouncy clean, and the AC's were midsy and jangly, to the surprise of no one. I could live with any of them. The AC10 was surprisingly ballsy.
