Reverb Issues

Post by The Scarecrow »

Meh. Problems ahoy. As some of you may know, I got my DSL 100 back recently after a lenghty, though free of charge service. The tone is better than ever, but I have been noticing lately that the reverb cuts in and out. It comes and goes, seems to come back everytime turn the main power off. Doesn't appear to affect the sound of the amp and isn't making any noises. I just turn the knob up and there's nothing, or sometimes it works as normal.

Overall, I'm not super-fussed, I don't really use it and it's pretty average anyway, but I'm wondering, if this will affect the rest of the amp, or are the reverb tanks pretty separate. I know that Sommerset used one of these and it had the reverb tank taken out, sounded pretty killer. Just wanting to know if anyone has any thoughts?

If its just the reverb tank it may not be a big issue, but if its the driver valves then there could be trouble. Might pay to try a known good reverb tank and see if the problem stays or goes...

Drop Clarry an email - audio34@world-net.co.nz (Top bloke, will be able to give you a very well educated guess as to what the problem is)

He has worked on LOTS of DSL's including Ryan Thomas' (Sommerset) old one. He is very weary of the ol DSL's. He has replaced a few reverb parts on different DSL's. They seem to be the first things that give up the ghost. Problem is, if its a tank, its about $300 for parts & labour....price just gets higher if its anything else. Perhaps thats the reason Ryan gave up on Marshall's and went for a Mesa? Who knows.

I'm tempted to take it back to Electric Factory, as all the work done should be under warranty. I will keep an eye on it.

Thanks, I think Millon from Sommerset used a DSL that had the tank taken out as well.

I've written to Clarry to get is take on it. Are you still using your DSL?

Thought for you mate - next time you practise turn on your tape recorder so you catch the intemittant. Then you've got something to take back to the supplier and say 'problem old chap!'
You can't do THAT on stage!
