Changing tubes.
Ok. I currently have number 7 Groove Tube 6L6's in my JCM 900. Say I was playing at a gig when a tube went - how would I go about changing a tube without electrocuting myself. This is assuming I had a spare! (for those that don't know, you can replace Groove Tubes of the same type without rebiasing as long as they are the same number (or so I am told)).
I don't really want 600 volts running through my arm.

Don't be a girly guitarist, mate!!
Just whip the dead one out and plug the new one straight in.
You could turn the power off if you were really worried.
Can't get electrocuted doing this - unless you wrap your fingers round to the pins - even then its only a tickle!

Says Rog who uses solid state amps. Maybe it's ok for you, but all the pictures of dinosaurs look to me like they have kind of thicker skin than me! I'm scared that you just want to see a charcoal picture of me in your newspaper. "hahaha" you'd say "that'll teach you for having a non-strat, non-purple, WOODGRAIN guitar! Now to get the rest of you's"

Back when thermionraptors ruled the world, I used to have valve amps, of course. When a bottle died, I'd change during a song (rest of band kept going - drum solo etc) just whip the amp onto standby and use a handkerchief to hold the hot bottle and replace - turn standby back on and start playing again.
Worked for me.

What part of a tube amp is it that if you touch it, even after the plug has been pulled outta the wall, you die? Is it the capacitor(s)?
this one's special, this is the ultimate, after this i'll never need another amp, EVER...
