Have you ever read a solid state amp review and the reviewer has stated how the amp doesn't sound like a tube amp?
Everytime I do, it causes me to wonder at the IQ of the reviewer.
Of COURSE it doesn't sound like a tube amp! Its a bloody transistor amp! What the smeg do they expect? If one is going to compare things, at least keep the comparison somewhat relevant!

it's because the majority of manufacturers usually include some comment like "gets a vintage tube-like tone etc" in the sales blurb. it's very rare in my experience to find a SS amp that hasn't got some sort of propaganda alluding to it sounding like a tube amp surrouding it.

Hmmm. On a kind-of-sort-of related topic, I recently played a Crate 1X12 combo, and it sounded pretty awesome, and really loud. The coolest thing about it was the "eq" that it had. It didn't have the labelled mid, treble etc, but like "scoop" and "top" and some other ones. Basically, the eq made a huge difference, something that has alway annoyed me about my amp. You could get some really cool sounds too.
