well. technically! wouldn't it be better for cooling to allow more cool air to flow upward over the valves as the heat causes the air to flow upward anyway??

No seriously folks.... remember we are down under!! it's us that's upside down, not the valves!!!!! LMAO.

Stevo - that's the way I'd see it also - taking the heat away from the bases of the valves and other componentry, instead of into them.
He hit a chord that rocked the spinet and disappeared into the infinite ...
