Amp Shipping: Who are the best?
Right, we've all shipped crap around the countryside.
Who had the best prices and care?
I used mainfreight to ship a bass amp down to Dunedin...they charged me $130 and didn't pick it up for two days until I'd bugged them a couple of times.
I shipped a big bass cab to a guy who used his work to ship it up to auckland and that was painless.
What's the best? If I had to ship an amp that weighs around 40kg and is about the size of an ac30 or mesa 2x12 combo, who would be the best?
I tried to search on this but it seems a bit silent

Mainfreight's always been good to me, whether it's depot-to-depot or door-to-door.
McDowalls is another option, if you can take it to their depot I'd bet it'll be cheaper than Mainfreight.
I've also used Castle Parcels once, with no issues.

Ive also used mainfreight to move a 115 bass cab from the south island to welly. About a hundred dollars, and about 4-5 working days door to door. No issues, they gave me a call to make sure it was alright to drop off. Would use them again. Im sure theres a quicker/cheaper/better courier though.

Yeah, I feel there should be better/cheaper options out there than them, but I'd still be happy to use them again.

Christchurch specific - Post Haste, out in Sockburn from memory. Or somewhere near that landfill/dump area. They have the best prices for 2-day courier service. Shipping a guitar of average size used to cost about $24 bucks. I've shipped amps with them before as well. Never had a single complaint. Sent dozens of things.tonymcbony wrote:Yeah, I feel there should be better/cheaper options out there than them, but I'd still be happy to use them again.

I've used them a couple of times for guitars and been impressed. Relatively good price and both times the items have turned up at their destination the next day (pretty long distances too).slash-ed wrote:Post Haste

Re: Amp Shipping: Who are the best?
Shipped my Boogie cab (from Dayl, now Slash-Ed's) from Auckland to the Wellington depot (Mainfreight) didn't have an account so I had to go and pick it up in Seaview but it only cost $54 bucks which was a killer deal I thought.
This hurts, especially after my $124 courier bill 2 weeks ago to courier a guitar from my place to Dunedin. Courierpost = Fail.

Re: Amp Shipping: Who are the best?
Christ, how much profit did the guy take on shipping? The last time I used courier post it was $52 to send a guitar across NZrobnobcorncob wrote:Shipped my Boogie cab (from Dayl, now Slash-Ed's) from Auckland to the Wellington depot (Mainfreight) didn't have an account so I had to go and pick it up in Seaview but it only cost $54 bucks which was a killer deal I thought.

Re: Amp Shipping: Who are the best?
Well it normally costs about 60 bucks to Auckland if it's a gig bag in a cardboard box. This was my Ibanez semi-hollow in a molded hardshell case wrapped in cardboard, so about as heavy as your average hardshell case with a solidbody inside. It was too big for parcel post I said 'I know I want to courier it' Teller says 'Ok that'll be $124 dollars thankyou, EFTPOS?.... ' I kinda stood there stunned. Thinking I better just bit the bullet and send i'd been slack getting it sent out to the buyer and I didn't have any other postage options at my immediate disposal.
I'll shop elsewhere next time.

Re: Amp Shipping: Who are the best?
Errgh.
Estimate (w/insurance) = 167.91 for mainfreight precision, 113.91 w/out insurance
That's going from central aucks to chch and something that's 35kg
Would I be a sucker for taking that? I just want to be safe
