Offset chat
Looking into getting another offset and it’s a hard road finding the perfect thing for my limited budget.
So I love the extra chrome bits on the Jag and bigger matching colour headstock but i prefer the scale length of the Jazzmaster.
I found this guy Jeff Senn who has built a mix of the 2, longer scale like a JM but with the look of a Jag.
I really like that he has moved the bridge pickup forward a bit to make it a little fatter as well.
So my question to the offset experts is can I take a JM body and neck (maybe with the big 70s matching headstock)and add standard Jag pick guard and chrome bits to make the bastard child (or best of both worlds) guitar?
If I got a body built I’d probably allow for the bridge pickup to be moved forward a bit too.

Re: Offset chat
Have a look at the routing, otherwise can’t see why not.

Re: Offset chat
Wouldn't you be better off grabbing a Jag and swapping in a Jazzmaster neck? Pretty sure it's the neck that determines the scale length on the offsets.
There's even a Jag / Strat hybrid floating aroundon the net.
You may not even need to move the bridge pu. The Jag has 1meg pots which I'm sure contribute to the brightness etc, lower value might tone it down and thicken it up a touch.

Re: Offset chat
JM neck on a Jag won't work by itself. You'd have to move the bridge back about 3/4" on the Jag to get the right scale length (JM bridge is placed closer to the trem than the Jag bridge), otherwise you'll never be able to intonate it properly. See the comparison pic here:

There's a reason why you never see people slapping JM necks on Jags.

Re: Offset chat
That actually looks like the perfect guitar to start with, think I’m going to start pricing up trem parts and pickups and work out of it would be worth while.Mattallica wrote:You could mod this to your liking perhaps?

Re: Offset chat
Yeah I figured the trem and bridge wouldn’t line up properly so my plan was to take a JM body and neck and add the chrome Jag bits and maybe cut down a JM pickguard to fit. But it may be way more difficult than it’s worth. I can probably deal with the 24” scale on a Jag if I had to.sunburster wrote:JM neck on a Jag won't work by itself. Re: Offset chat
Fender made a Jaguar Strat (25.5" scale) recently that sounds like it might be what you're looking for:

Also a full-scale Jag by the Custom Shop if you've got money to burn:

Re: Offset chat
Yeah that Strat does look like the right sort of concept, if only it was shaped like an offset and not a Strat.sunburster wrote:Fender made a Jaguar Strat (25.5" scale) recently that sounds like it might be what you're looking for:

Ah hah. Might have known it wasn't so straighforward. ( New to the offset reality, me)

Re: Offset chat
I have been looking at those actually, The shape looks a little off to me and I wonder if all the routing won’t fit any standard US parts like the Trem etc. there’s probably too many variables for me to go down that path. I think that Squire in chch would be a better option at least I can try it first and if it’s rubbish I can probably still get my money back. Although I see it’s got a start style Trem so I’d have to fill it in to convert it to a proper JM Trem.Mattallica wrote:How about the GFS stuff?

Re: Offset chat
Interesting... they only list Strat and Tele necks. Does that mean either of them will work with those offset bodies?Mattallica wrote:How about the GFS stuff?
