wait so the binding was on when you got its you masked it before spraying? really liking just curious on your process

yep, all binding is applied direct to bare wood. then scraped into shape. This came pre-bound.

Most times I don’t mask off, I just use my scraper. This time I masked off the broad side of the binding to reduce scraping work, because it really does suck. You can get pretty quick at scraping off the finish. This was pretty thick though. Lots of colour coats so a fair bit of remov8ng built up lacquer.

Some aged tint on the binding. You can see the odd impurity in the finish. They will sand and buff out. I tend not to stress about that stuff in the early stages unless it's a real big something. This is why a proper spray booth would be essential if it were more than a hobby. The rural flies and mozzies love fresh paint.

Correct red/brown sides.

Did ypu sptay the tint for the binding over the whole thing?

Edges and sides only...but the spray dissipates.

I should have added, the order of the layers is critical. By doing this last over dark edges the tint won’t affect how they look. Make sense?
