I wonder...olegmcnoleg wrote:You could try sticking it under a UV lamp for a few weeks--that might do it.Molly wrote:Wondered if I flat it back a bit then put a thin Olympic White on there would I get a true Shell Pink. Probably look shit, eh?bender wrote:
Oh, I see. Well... I suppose that's OK then. Olympic white is a pretty great colour choice.

Re: Another Strat build project
There is no doubt in my mind that faded white strats rule, but after seeing that relic picture of the shell pink one, I have been scanning the MJT listings on eBay to find one like it.
I think the UV lamp works. Older style paints and lacquers should fade to yellow with strong exposure. There is just a small danger that if you leave it there for too long the colour will turn to Trump Orange

This guy suggests a 300w tanning bulb is the way to go. I might get a bit of colour myself in the process.olegmcnoleg wrote:There is no doubt in my mind that faded white strats rule, but after seeing that relic picture of the shell pink one, I have been scanning the MJT listings on eBay to find one like it.

Re: Another Strat build project
Thought I'd try a stain to bring out the checking. Still undecided about keeping the finish at all so nothing lost by playing with it.

I could live with that. What stain did you use, Molly?Molly wrote:Trying to fade it back but so far without success.Bg wrote:really not sure about the colour, but personal preference eh.
Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

I put a tiny bit on a smooth cloth (so it goes on evenly) and rubbed like ewt.
I've an article somewhere here that I scanned to pdf. A guy makes his Tele nitro crack with heat / cooling then rubs the oak stain in to accentuate the cracks. Anyway, that's what I did. If I could just fade it down it'd save me stripping and painting it.

I could leave it hangin' in a greenhouse type thing for a full summer. That'd do the trick.kwhelan wrote:move to Hawkes Bay, everything fades Its one of the only places in the world where they won't guarantee outdoor furniture because it can't take it
